Lara Friedman-Shedlov is Description and Access Archivist for the Kautz Family YMCA Archives, a unit of the Department of Archives and Special Collections at the University of Minnesota Libraries. For the past 15+ years, her work has focused primarily on the challenges of making archival material discoverable. Other interests include diversity, equity and inclusion in libraries/archives, born digital/electronic records, Encoded Archival Description, and information technology in general, as well as the YMCA and its work around the world. Lara received her B.A. in Religion from Vassar College and her M.L.I.S. from the University of Michigan. She has been an active member of the Midwest Archives Conference (for which she is currently chair of the Archie Motley Scholarship for Students of Color) and the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). When she's not working she can usually be found dancing (she teaches and performs several traditional dance forms from England and Scotland) or performing feats of strength at the gym.
